Once upon a time wearing sportswear to work was an absolute no-no. The pair of trainers you’d worn to work were safely stashed away under your desk to be replaced by something deemed more suitable for the office. You could (well just about) wear leggings to the office under a tunic top but you’d always ran the risk of looking scruffy rather than sophisticated. You wanted to be comfortable but professional, taken seriously but also reflect your personality. Yes, it was a tough game trying to get the balance right. But then the geniuses of the fashion world came along with a new trend which has continued to come back again – yes, I’m talking about Sports Luxe.
There may well be a number of interpretations of so-called Sports Luxe but one thing is clear – it’s designed to make the wearer feel comfortably smart. And nothing quite nails it this season like Sweaty Betty. When I saw their small but perfectly formed AW16 collection a few months ago, I thought now that’s something I could wear with confidence to the office. For Sweaty Betty has created a clean and contemporary range of pieces that would easily slot into your work wardrobe. From a classic roll neck made from a wool blend and a merino blend jumper to a slightly flared knitted skirt and, my personal favourite, a simple soft shirt dress, these are key pieces which you can layer up. The colours are also fairly neutral which makes them a great base to add colour.
Besides the fact these pieces look good, they are also practical. The beautiful (but expensive) Aqueca Luxe 3 in 1 Jacket is a very useful piece of kit. With a detachable hood and gilet, you can wear this jacket on its own or with said items attached on particularly freezing cold days. The slightly oversized Resto Luxe jumper is made from a cashmere blend to keep you warm and insulated. And the keep dry Luxe Cape is an upgrade to any commuter cyclist’s everyday wardrobe.
So when it comes to writing to Father Christmas this year, there are a few pieces from Sweaty Betty that I may add to my wishlist.
