  • Get Fit For Free With Sweaty Betty and Simone De La Rue

    It’s not easy to get back to fitness after an injury but now I’ve been given the OK by the Dr, I’m determined to come back fitter and faster than ever. When I wasn’t running, I was always thinking of whether there were ways of improving the way I train. (That’s what happens when you can’t run and want to.)

    Speed work is definitely on the agenda but I know that my arm needs to be able to confidently swing backwards and forwards before I start to sprint like a crazy woman – so I’m going to stride before I sprint. And to stop my arm becoming too tired, I’m still searching for alternative high tempo workouts.

    Thankfully, Sweaty Betty’s latest Get Fit For Free campaign is just that. Introducing Body By Simone – a dance-based workout choreographed by LA fitness icon Simone De La Rue. The former dancer on Broadway created a unique series of movements to ensure she could perform night after night injury-free which she then developed into a technique that she now teaches to clients in New York and Los Angeles. Known as Body By Simone, her classes fuse bodyweight exercises mainly with cardio to condition the body and help create a strong and lean physique.

    Now you can try it for yourself at Sweaty Betty stores up and down the country until 29 September 2015. I’ve not had the chance to pop into store yet (due to weddings) but I’m keen to follow a class of a Body By Simone trainer.

    And if you can’t make one of the classes, there’s a video featuring Simone De La Rue and her signature workout. She targets four key areas: arms, legs, abs and bum – and gets your body really working to its maximum. It’s the perfect workout to try on a lazy Sunday afternoon (while you’re partner is watching Countryfile). After just 20 minutes of the 30-or-so-minute video, you’ll be sweating like a pro and feeling smug and satisfied.

    There are also some healthy recipes alongside Simone De La Rue’s workout to inspire you by the food blogger Naturally Sassy (Saskia Gregson-Williams). With recipes such as Almond Butter Caramels, you’ll be able to get that sweet fix without feeling like you’ve undone all that hard work.

    But for me, the best thing about this particular campaign (besides the workout) is the California Girl vest and collection of clothing that you can wear both in the studio or again on a lazy day at the weekend. Featuring colourful leggings, slouchy dance pants, vests and lightweight jackets, it’ll bring colour into your life when the nights start to draw in.
