When it comes to beauty products, I’m all for finding out what the active ingredients are. I guess it comes from having a mother who is a scientist by trade and would go around the beauty counters when I was younger saying, “ohhh, peptides” and “this one contains hyaluronic acid”. My mum may have been a fan of Elizabeth Arden for years but that’s not because of the brand alone, she has carefully put together her own tick box of ingredients that work for her skin.
So when I found a tube of Balance Active Hyaluronic Moisturiser in her bathroom cupboard while visiting before Christmas last year, I thought I’d give it a go. And was pleasantly surprised by the results. Here’s why:
Rapidly absorbent and hydrating
I’m not one for hanging around spending hours in the bathroom getting ready and my beauty routine consists of cleanse face, moisturise and get to work as fast as possible. I want a moisturiser that absorbs quickly without residue. In terms of skin type, I would describe myself as having combination with a leaning towards sensitive. Anything too rich and it’ll layer on the top of the dermis like a thick foam. Anything too active and my skin will dry out or break out. I need something that will hydrate without clogging up my skin. Enter Balance Active Hyaluronic Moisturiser. The light cooling moisturiser absorbs into the skin straight away plumping it up and leaving you looking radiant. And don’t take my word for it. My mum asked me after I used it what I had been using on my skin. I replied: “It’s yours mum”.
You only need a smidge
A little of this product goes a long way. The amount on my hand is enough for your whole face.
A tried and tested key ingredient
Essentially, Balance Active contains a powerful type of hyaluronic acid (don’t be put off by the term acid, it’s simply an ingredient) which moisturises and plumps up the skin by acting like a magnet to water. Most of the reason why we look like we age is because our skin loses water. Hyaluronic acid reverses this process leaving your skin feeling firmer and more radiant.
I knew I was onto a good thing and so was pleasantly surprised that those beauty experts agreed. Balance Active Hyaluronic Moisturiser won a silver award at the Pure Beauty Awards in 2015.
More than reasonable price point
My mum discovered Balance Active Hyaluronic Moisturiser in her local Savers store where she paid £1.99 for it. Yes, £1.99. Unfortunately, Savers no longer stocks it (and believe me, I’ve tried to find it there) but you can still find it on Amazon for around £7, which is a bargain in my book. I’d pay £20 for it so this is a pretty sweet deal.
My overall opinion
It’s good to discover new beauty products that produce results. I use Balance Active Hyaluronic Moisturiser as a serum under my moisturiser during the day and at night because it gives my skin a lift and means I can go on feeling confident about my skin.
