Now here’s one event I’d want to attend if a) I wasn’t sporting a Storm Trooper boot and b) lived near the Lakeland trails and c) didn’t have a 9 to 5 job. On Thursday 7 April, the international Salomon trail team will be hosting an event in Keswick, which includes films, talks and a 5k or 10k trail run with arguably some of the best trail sportsmen and women around.
And when I say the best, I mean the creme de la creme. If you’re not into trail running, then these guys are the equivalent of premiership footballers. Yep, I’m talking the likes of Kilian Jornet (whose light touch across the mountains makes trail running look effortless), Ricky Lightfoot, Anna Frost (a woman after my own heart especially at this moment in time), Francois D’Haene, Tom Owens, Mira Rai, Ryan Sandes, Emelie Forsberg, Laura Orgue, Remi Bonnet, Dakota Jones, Rickey Gates, Ellie Greenwood, Max King, Emma Clayton, Micha Steiner, Philipp Reiter, Yngvild Kaspersen and Martina Valmassoi. Hear their tales about exploration and be inspired by their approach to some of the toughest races on earth.
Honestly, there’s so much I’d like to ask them. Not just in terms of what they’ve seen and their most favourite races ever but also how they mentally prepare for races and the strategies they use when things don’t go according to plan (which inevitably always happens). What their favourite food is and whether they have set routines before they begin a race. And, of course, the question around Jornet’s plans and Everest.
The afternoon kicks off at 2pm at the Theatre By The Lake with talks by the team and a Q&A session. You can then join them in a 5K or 10k which starts at George Fisher, Keswick, at 5pm.

Proceeds from all events go to Fix the Fells.
And if you do happen to go, please let this injured and envious runner know what it was like.
